"Kakumono" (i.e. square container) is a traditional handcraft which is famous in Kyushu Prefecture since the Meiji Era in Japan. It uses a fire-bending technique to shape the curvy lines of bamboo strips and then to assemble them. It was commonly used to store and carry tofu back in the old time. Thanks to the excellent breathability and the use of natural materials, "kakumono" helps to drain water whilst protect the fragile texture of tofu. Nowadays, "kakumono" are more widely used in Japanese people's daily life. They are popular as bento boxes and storage baskets.
