$185.00

Ikebana is more than just floral arrangement—it is an art form that expresses emotions and celebrates the natural beauty of each flower. In this workshop, we will explore the contemporary free style of ikebana, "Nageire", focusing on personal expression and artistic sensitivity to create meaningful designs using plants and natural materials.

Explore Ikebana, the Japanese tradition of floral art that brings nature and creativity into harmony. This welcoming workshop introduces the basics of ikebana, making it perfect for beginners or anyone curious about Japanese aesthetics. With hands-on guidance, you’ll learn to observe each flower’s unique character and express its natural beauty through simple, balanced design.

Working with the "Nageire" style, we will arrange plants in their most natural forms, embracing their unique characteristics and subtle beauty. This hands-on experience will encourage you to see flowers not just as materials, but as living elements that inspire a deep connection and artistic expression.

More than just arranging flowers, ikebana is a meditative and artistic practice that encourages mindfulness and personal expression. In this session, you’ll connect deeply with seasonal materials and create your own arrangement to take home. All materials are provided—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to explore.

What You Will Learn:
- Freestyle Ikebana basics
- A brief history of ikebana
- How to appreciate and work with seasonal flowers

What’re Included:
- A white ceramic vessel
- A kenzan (flower pin holder)
- Your own ikebana creation to take home
- A written outline covering ikebana fundamentals
- An "omotenashi" (i.e. hospitality) experience with Japanese tea and sweets

About Azumi:

Azumi Ishikawa is the creator and founder of byAzumi, a bespoke floristry studio located in South Yarra. Azumi was born in Osaka, Japan, with an instinctive awareness for the beauty in nature. Growing up, she watched her mother, an ikebana master, create floral art using local, seasonal elements. The family house was always filled with flowers, floral arrangements and plants and Azumi realised early on that she was destined to work with flowers.
