We're very excited that finally we're collaborating with Melbourne-based Japanese wagashi artisan Minnie (Minako) from MinnieSweets to curate wagashi making workshops at Kurashi!
What make our workshops exclusive and special?
- During the workshops, Minnie will bring you through a hands-on experience to know and actually use your hands to make your own wagashi and enjoy it pairing with tea afterwards.
- All of the tea wares and wagashi plates that you will be using at the workshops are the beautifully handcrafted pieces by different Japanese artists, whose works are being exhibited during the June exhibition at Kurashi. We would like to deliver an exceptional experience that you can actually use the artisanal pieces that you haven't seen or experienced before during the workshops.

Meet the artisan - Minako Asai (Minnie), owner and creator of MinnieSweets
Minako grew up in the Aichi prefecture in Japan, and wagashi is a formative reminder of her childhood. After moving to Melbourne, authentic wagashi was very hard to find. She began teaching herself how to make wagashi, replying on the memories of taste and texture, and her years of experience working in a food hall of one of the largest department stores in Japan.
Minako is now on a mission to bring the authentic, handmade Japanese confectionery experience to Melbourne and Australia!
